Faculty Physician - Geriatric Orthopedic Surgeon, Clinical Program Director (Assistant or Associate/Full Professor)

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time orthopedic surgeon with expertise in general orthopedic fracture care and geriatric trauma fracture care to be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, on the academic or clinician track. Candidates should be board certified or board eligible in orthopedic surgery with a required fellowship in trauma with focus on Geriatric patients. The individual hired will also be employed full-time in the University of Minnesota Physicians practice group.

Academic Responsibilities:

This is an outstanding career opportunity for an academic Orthopedic surgeon to lead our geriatric initiative called, The Masters' Program, a joint collaboration between Health Partners Health System, and the University of Minnesota. The Masters has been growing for well over a decade and includes a comprehensive bone health approach to older and frailer patients who sustain fractures. The program is characterized by a 3-part model, inclusive of Bone Health Clinics, Hospital Co-Management, and the acclaimed Mobile Outreach program which diagnoses and treats patients in the nursing home setting when appropriate. This program is tied to a Geriatric Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship and yields many research opportunities, which we want our newest faculty member to lead.

The ideal candidate would be an orthopedic surgeon with:

• Prospective Candidates should demonstrate a track record of clinical and programmatic experience in the field of Orthopaedic Trauma or Reconstructive Surgery, ideally working in treatment of fragility fractures and the injured geriatric patient.

• A passion for the study and treatment of elderly patients

• Innovative care delivery and scholarship

• Experience in a geriatric focused trauma or recon practice, or related fellowship

• A desire for instructing and research in this clinical domain

• Leadership ability to run a multi-faceted clinical and academic program, lead a fellowship and provide mentoring learners and faculty

• Ability to work effectively inside and across organizations with interdisciplinary interests and a focus on outstanding clinical care and academic achievement

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Includes patient care at Lakeview Hospital and TRIA Woodbury and/or TRIA Stillwater.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited ACGME Orthopedic Surgery residency and/or fellowship training program.

• Required fellowship in trauma with focus on Geriatric patients.

• Board eligible/certified.

• Licensed or ability to acquire medical license and DEA in the State of Minnesota, and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.

• Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of the VISA.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Outstanding collaboration abilities with partners and staff.

• Understands and places importance on patient care/service.

• Detail oriented and self-motivated

• Education focused and a creative problem-solver
